Week 47 - I Became a Dad!!!

Hola Everyone:

Well, this past week has been sort of a long week in Palmar and honestly, I was relieved to get a phone call on Sunday morning telling me that it was my last! Palmar has really been a hard area and we spent a lot of our time running into drunks and druggies.  The druggies are always like sniffing or sucking thinner from a napkin or paper towel and they are really weird, but we are nice to them and I guess that is what is important.  So, this last week while contacting, we really didn’t have any success at all and I think that is what contributed to the fact that the President decided to close up this area to missionary work!

On Sunday when President Kimball called me, he told me that he has really been impressed with the way I have been putting in 100% into this Area and he asked me if I wanted to train a new missionary! Of course, I said yes but he also then told me that he had decided to close down Palmar and that he needed me to go and reopen another area that had been closed down because it is sort of a rough area!  So, I will still be in Pachuca but I will be opening up an area called the Tecnologico 2 Area.

Today, I went to the mission office and picked up my son, missionary language for my new Companion!  He is Elder Solorzano and is from Honduras.  I am excited about being able to train a brand new Elder and also re-opening up an area for missionary work.  I can’t wait to see what adventures this new Area has!

Week 46 - Saying Goodbye to President and Sister Kimball

Hola Everyone,

It’s been another week here in Mexico. This week was again pretty interesting. I don’t have a lot of time to write today, but here are a few highlights of the week.

To start off with, on Tuesday we went to the Mexico City Temple with President and Sister Kimball as a Zone. It was pretty cool because we have not been through the Temple since the changes were made to the Temple sessions. It was also really sad though because President and Sister Kimball will be going home and we will miss him. He’s been a great Mission President!

After going to the Temple, we also had our Zone Conference and ate A LOT of pizza. So that was fun!  Also this week, we had Stake Conference which was pretty good but nothing of note came out of that!

Other than that, this week has been pretty normal.  My area is still pretty tough. We’ve been working hard at contacting and trying to find new people that will listen. But people are just simply not interested and the Ward Members are not a lot of help in this Area because of the problems in the Ward!

Although a lot of the days are pretty hard, I love serving the people and Mexico and I love being a missionary.  Changes are this next week so I will probably be getting a new Companion but it should be pretty interesting to see what happens.  My Testimony of the Gospel really grown this past year even though a lot of days have been hard!

Have a great week!

Love,

Week 45 - Watching Frogs!!!

Hola Everyone,

Another short letter this week. Sorry, we’ve been super busy and it’s been quite a difficult week. We are working hard and have been working with the Ward a lot.

As far as investigators go this week, Servio didn’t come to Church this past week. We weren’t really surprised. He hasn’t been progressing. We are going to keep trying, but we don’t want to push too hard.  This area is definitely the hardest area I have served in and there are just not a lot of people that will talk to us so it is hard to teach!

Tomorrow we are going to the Temple with President Kimball as a Mission and we are really looking forward to that. It will be cool! President Kimball and his wife will be leaving us at the end of the month and we will be getting our new President who is from Mexico!

Last Friday I got really sick and vomited a lot! Then my Companion got sick shortly after I did. So, we must have eaten something that didn’t agree with us. It was food poisoning for sure because I have experienced it so many times that I just know now when it happens.  So, we stayed in for a while until we both had enough strength to go back out and work later that day.
The interesting thing for the week is that a member had to go out of town for a few days so they asked us to watch their frogs for a few days for them.  They were really cool and those that know me know I really like that sort of stuff!

Well, that’s all I got for this week. I’m working hard and I love being a missionary!

Hope you all have a great week!

Love,

Week 44 - Proper Authority to Baptize!

Hola Everyone,

It’s another week as usual here in Mexico.  Since today is P-Day we just got done with an entire Zone activity, which was pretty fun! We played in these bubble ball things. Kind of like a Zorb Ball or Bumper Ball and you can run into each other. Everyone here thinks I’m the strongest person ever, just because I didn’t fall down at all. But my body hurts after playing!

So, this week has been an interesting week again. I know I’ve told you guys that this area is extremely hard and I’m probably going to keep saying that until I leave because it is really hard! We are working hard and contacting people right now, but we don’t really have many people progressing at this moment. I feel bad for my Companion because he’s young and hasn’t experienced a lot of success yet in the mission because this is a really hard area.

We do have one investigator that is starting to progress, we watched the Joseph Smith story with him and he really enjoyed it. We sat down and talked with him and my Companion brought up baptism and at first, he said no. He didn’t understand why he would want to get baptized by us when he could get baptized by anyone. So, I had to explain the just like Jesus being baptized by John the Baptist who had authority, he too needs to be baptized by someone who had the authority to do so and baptized by immersion. We asked him again and he agreed, so he has a date to be baptized on the 29th. So that is super awesome and we are really looking forward to it.

Basically, the highlight of the week was we had our last interviews with President Kimball. My Companion and I were the last ones to interview. He shared a lesson and talked a lot about missionaries that go home and become in-actives. He gave us a picture of Jesus washing the Disciples feet because I don’t know if you remember, but when I did my first interview with him, he shined our shoes. So, it’s like the picture. It’s one of President’s favorites.  It’s a nice canvas picture and I’m going to have President and Sister Kimball sign it. He also gave us a temple recommend holder that has the Mexico City Temple and their names on the inside.  Those are usually the things they give missionaries when they go home but because he is leaving at the end of the month, he gave it to all of us during our interviews

Well, that was my week. Hope you all are doing well. I love being a missionary and I love the people of Mexico.

Love,

Elder Fawcett
